Nola is a Risograph print on recycled 70lb brown kraft paper. Measuring 36” x 42” inches it is the artist’s largest series. This piece is from the “Relic Series”, a collection of images created from found objects and locations digitally combined and aged to create totems to times once past.
This piece is an edition and only five of these pieces in this size will ever made and sold, this is number three of five.
Nodding to the alter and honoring ones ancestors through favorite objects, food, and places in this series the artist used his own experience as the raw material. In Nola the focus was on keepsakes and jewelry collected by older black men from and in New Orleans laid over a late 90s sports jersey. Within the piece are cues to religious iconography, social economic class, community status, and honoring the stories and lessons kept by generations past.
